MENTORING IN SCHOOLS
Why a course on mentoring teachers?
Mentoring teachers in schools can be an effective mechanism to help teachers bridge the gap between theory and practice, and can increase their job satisfaction and feeling of self-efficacy. This, in turn, positively affects student learning.
While the effectiveness of mentoring to a large extent depends on the mentor’s skills and characteristics, mentors often are
appointed following their teaching experience without receiving much guidance for the mentoring.
The course offers key guidance, strategies, materials and tools for effective mentorship at school. In four modules participants will learn all about different mentorship approaches, important factors in mentorship relations and tips for collaborative conversations. After that, the course looks at preparations for and running of lesson observations as well as fruitful feedback sessions, and the use of videos and online tools in mentoring.
Target audience: All kinds of mentors, coaches and tutors helping teachers, and those interested in becoming one.
