Global Partnership: Join the ATE 2026 Inquiry Initiative

We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity from our partners across the Atlantic, the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE). They are inviting dedicated teacher educators to join a significant 3-year collaborative research journey:

"Reclaiming Teaching in an Era of Disruption"

As we navigate a landscape of rapid technological and social change, this initiative brings together a community of educators to examine how we can reclaim, redefine, and sustain the core purpose of teaching. Now entering its fourth cohort, the project will be led by a dynamic team of experts: Nathan Blom, Mark Diacopoulos, and Jamia Richmond.

Why Participate? This initiative is a unique space for:

  • Deep Collaborative Inquiry: Working alongside international peers on long-term research.
  • Critical Dialogue: Addressing the complexities of modern teacher education.
  • Actionable Scholarship: Turning shared insights into meaningful professional outcomes.

The European Alternatives Team  - Guide: Democracy in the Making: Creative Methods for Youth & Educators

We are excited to announce that Critical ChangeLab has released a new open-access resource designed to transform how young people engage with democratic processes. Developed through extensive collaborative work with youth across 19 European countries, this project moves beyond traditional classroom discussion to make democracy a lived, creative, and tangible experience.

The following resource is now available for use in schools, youth clubs, libraries, museums, and other non-formal learning settings.

Democracy in the Making: Creative Methods for Youth & Educators

This practical field guide puts creative practice at the center of civic engagement. It features a wide array of hands-on methods - including Meme Making, Zine Making, Photovoice, Walking Debates, Historical Roleplay, and Theatre of the Oppressed - that invite young people to move, imagine, and create together while exploring complex democratic concepts.

By drawing on arts and design, futures thinking, and participatory research, the handbook helps participants explore different ways of understanding the world. This approach ensures that participation is more accessible and inclusive, positioning young people as co-creators, researchers, and storytellers rather than passive learners.

This guide helps you gain:

  • A clear framework for teaching democracy that centers youth agency and participation
  • Practical tools to facilitate inclusive, socially just learning environments
  • Strategies to handle challenge and resistance, including working with discomfort productively
  • Step-by-step guidance for engaging young people, from building trust to taking action and reflecting
  • Stronger facilitation skills, including creating safe spaces and adapting to different group dynamics
  • Flexible, creative approaches that embrace uncertainty and support meaningful youth-led change

These tools empower youth to think critically about power and test their own ideas for change, ultimately helping them take a more active and confident role in public life.
