ATEE Webinar: The 50 Years of ATEE: Bridging History and Innovation in Science and Mathematics Education 25 February 2026, 6 PM CET
We are proud to begin the ATEE 50th Anniversary celebrations with a special webinar on February 25th at 6:00 PM CET. This session offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the evolution of teacher education through the lens of one of our long-standing members. We are honored to feature Elizabeth Oldham, a member of ATEE since 1981, who will examine the profound shifts in science and mathematics education over the last half-century. Bridging this history with modern innovation, Lorraine Harbison will present the ATEE-supported project Mathscify, which is developing an innovative multilingual assessment tool for teachers and students. To conclude, Laurinda Leite will introduce the upcoming Winter Conference at the University of Minho in Braga, setting the stage for the next chapter. This webinar is free of charge and open to all. CEDEFOP Report: Bridging digital transitions and skills mismatches in Europe
ATEE is pleased to disseminate the publication of a special edition in Cedefop's working paper series, exploring how digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), are reshaping skill requirements and mismatch in Europe's labour markets. As automation and AI rapidly transform skill requirements across the EU, concerns are growing about employment impacts and Europe's competitive position. Addressing the gap between evolving job demands and workers' skills renders upskilling and reskilling strategies more critical than ever. To better understand how digitalisation affects adult workers’ skill mismatches, job insecurity related to automation and overall job quality, Cedefop conducted the second wave of the European Skills and Jobs Survey (ESJS) in 2021. This special edition marks the first in-depth exploration of the ESJS2 microdata by external researchers, featuring ten original research contributions that examine how the digital transition is affecting jobs, skills and training across Europe. The publication offers robust empirical analyses on a wide range of issues central to understanding and navigating the digital transformation of work in the EU. Indicative themes include: - the impact of Covid-19 induced digitalisation on training and worker well-being,
- how an organisational ‘learning culture’ can address skill mismatches within firms,
- determinants of digital skills demand and training in jobs, including related age or gender segregation,
- technologically-induced task automation in EU jobs and worker upskilling,
- skill shortages in the EU labour market and firms’ hiring practices,
- skill shortages and digital gaps in strategic EU sectors – AI, defence and education.
These analyses were also presented in the related workshop ‘Human-centred digital transitions: skill mismatches in European workplaces’, held in 2024.
