Learning from COVID-19: continuity or change in teacher education?

 Aims and scope

In this special issue, we invite contributors to present and discuss ways in which teacher education sectors are responding over the longer term to the challenge of Covid-19. From our earlier special issue Journal of Education for Teaching 46:4 (2020) we know that changes wrought by the immediate effects of the pandemic have required considerable adjustments. This special issue provides an opportunity for researchers to focus on the longer-term continuities and/or changes, and to present substantive, research-based articles on the ways in which teacher education has been adapting to the ‘new normal’ of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

We invite manuscripts of up to 6000 words on systemic and/or policy-based aspects of teacher education development in the academic year 2020/21. We are not seeking case studies from individual universities, but are interested in research across multiple sites on wider changes and/or continuities across the teacher education landscape. Submissions may include themes such as:

  • Teacher education policy reform and its implementation from macro to micro levels
  • Systemic changes to accommodate new demands and challenges
  • Theorised and conceptual constructions of continuity or change in teacher education
  • The effects of new technologies and new uses of technology for learning and teaching in teacher education
  • Changes in pre-service teacher education provision, including for student teacher placements
  • Changes to teacher and teacher educator professional learning models, including online in-service teaching and community

 

The Journal of Education for Teaching is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original, rigorously presented and researched articles with significance for the academic field of the education of teachers. The journal interprets ‘teacher education’ in the widest sense, to include articles from or about academic staff involved with, and responsible for, initial teacher education, continued professional development and the broad field of research into higher education’s contribution to education.

Manuscript draft submission: 10th December 2021

Manuscript final submission: 31st January 2022

Publication: Issue 48:2, April 2022.
