Call for Papers – Special Issue
Pedagogical Integration in Bilingual and Immersion Teacher Education:

Professional Knowledge, Collaborative Inquiry, and Programme Design
Preparing teachers to integrate disciplinary knowledge, language, and literacy has become a defining challenge of bilingual, immersion, CLIL, content-based, and multilingual education across the world. Although decades of research have demonstrated the importance of this form of pedagogical integration for supporting meaningful learning, a fundamental question remains surprisingly underexplored: How do teachers learn to teach in integrated ways?

This Special Issue seeks to advance this next stage of inquiry by shifting attention from integrated classroom practice alone to the teacher education processes through which teacher candidates and practising teachers learn to integrate disciplinary knowledge, language, and literacy as a coherent form of professional practice. We invite empirical, theoretical, and design-based contributions that examine how pedagogical integration is conceptualised, modelled, developed, enacted, and sustained through teacher education.
Particular attention will be given to research exploring teacher educators, professional knowledge, programme design, collaborative inquiry, mentoring, practicum experiences, school–university partnerships, and the institutional and policy conditions that shape teacher learning across bilingual, immersion, CLIL, content-based, multilingual, and minority-language education contexts.

Bringing together perspectives from diverse educational traditions and international contexts, this Special Issue aims to advance a global conversation about how teacher education can better prepare educators to integrate content, language, and literacy in increasingly complex educational environments.
