Research and Development Communities (RDCs) form the core of our association. These communities bring together teacher educators from diverse backgrounds, researchers in teacher education, and other stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to engage in meaningful exchange, collaboration, and professional development.
RDC activities encompass a wide range of initiatives, including focused collegial exchange, joint research projects, in-depth discussions on key issues in teacher education, the formulation of policy recommendations and strategic initiatives, the organisation of workshops or even ATEE’s winter or spring conferences. RDC have shared many publications on a broad range of topics of teacher education and contribute to the Associations’ Journal, the European Journal of Teacher Education.
Participation in RDCs is open to both members and non-members of the association. Below, you will find detailed information about each RDC, including their focus areas and ongoing projects. To find out more, please, contact the RDCs’ chairs or our RDC coordinator.
How does it
work?
Our Research and Development Communities (RDCs) are structured around key themes and pressing issues in teacher education, both current and enduring. They provide a dynamic platform for professionals with shared interests to connect, learn from one another, and engage in collective growth.
Since February 2025, Manuela Schlick from Austria serves as RDC coordinator for ATEE:
I am dedicated to supporting our Research and Development Communities in advancing teacher education across Europe. My goal is to foster networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas – at conferences, RDC chair meetings, and through sharing RDC work within and beyond ATEE. With a background as a teacher educator since 2004 in Austria and Germany, and as a trained secondary teacher of English and Spanish, I bring both academic and practical perspectives. If you’d like to learn more about RDCs, find a fitting one, or start your own, I will be happy to hear from you.
